What type of housing is Casa de Piños? Is it low-income housing?

Casa de Piños is a subsidized housing community for seniors over the age of 62 with a few apartments for people who are mobility/sensory impaired. The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income. A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.

Who pays the remainder of the rent?

The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy. If a resident qualifies for a subsidy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.

How is rent calculated?

Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months. This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.

What does the rent include?

Monthly rental of the apartment, as well as heat, water and an electric allowance. An electric allowance is a certain amount taken off of the resident’s rent payment meant to help the resident pay the electric bill. The allowance amount is based on average usage for the apartment and may change annually. Residents will still receive an electric bill, but the allowance is intended to help pay for it. Residents may still be eligible for energy assistance from the state.

Is there a lease?

Yes, there is a one-year lease, but we understand the necessity of unanticipated move-outs.

How many apartments are there?

Casa de Piños has 40 apartments.

How big are the apartments?

Casa de Piños offers spacious studio and one-bedroom apartments, as well as a few more-accessible apartments for the mobility impaired. For square footage, studio apartments are approximately 468 square feet and one-bedroom apartments and accessible apartments are approximately 566 square feet.

How do I get started with the move-in process?

Simply fill out an application completely, sign it and mail it to the address on the back of the application.

Is there a waiting list for residency?

Yes, currently Casa de Piños has a waiting list. Please call 928-445-1470 for the approximate waiting time.

What is the Security Deposit?

The Security Deposit is the same as one month’s full rent (before the electric allowance) with a minimum of $50. This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.

Do you allow pets?

Casa de Piños welcomes you to bring your pets along with you. Fish and birds are welcomed without a deposit. We also welcome small dogs and cats with a pet deposit. There is a limit of one animal (cat or dog)per apartment and there are certain size and breed restrictions.

What is the Pet Deposit?

The pet deposit is $150. We can make payment arrangements for this deposit. Beginning with $50 and then a monthly payment of $10 until the deposit is paid in full.

Is there additional storage space available?

There is no additional storage available, however, each style of apartment offers a large amount of storage space.

Is there an elevator?

Yes, there is one elevator located in the center of the building easily accessible by all residents, on all three floors.

What is the weather like in Prescott?

Mile-high Prescott has an ideal four-season climate. Temperatures rarely exceed 90 degrees, and most days are filled with sunshine. Winter months can drop into the low to mid-teens at night. It doesn’t snow often in Prescott, but when it does, usually an inch or more of fresh snow hits the ground. For two days a year on average, the number of new snow totals at least three inches. Snowstorms of over five inches a day seldom occur. Beautiful blue skies and sunshine usually follow a snowstorm allowing picturesque scenes of the mountains and pines.
