Q: What type of housing is Mason Place?

A: Mason Place is a subsidized housing community for seniors age of 62 & over.  The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income.  A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.

Q: Who pays the remainder of rent?

A: The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency.

Q: Is there a lease?

A: Yes, there is a one-year lease, but we understand the necessity of unanticipated move-outs.

Q: How big are the apartments?

A: Mason Place offers spacious studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments. They range in size, based on floor plan, from 630 to 972 square feet.

Q: How do I get started with the move in process?

A: Currently, the waiting list for Mason Place is closed.

Q: Is there a waiting list for residency?

A: Yes.  There is currently a very long (10+ years) waiting list for Mason Place.

Q: What is the Security Deposit?

A: There is no Security Deposit required.

Q: Do you allow pets?

A: Mason Place welcomes you and your small pet. There is a limit of one animal per apartment and there are certain size restrictions.

Q: What is the Pet Deposit?

A: There is no pet deposit required.

Q: Is parking available?

A: Our downtown location does not allow for parking.

Q: How many keys do I receive?

A: Each unit receives one full set of keys – main entrance key, unit key, and mailbox key.

Q:  Are there any planned activities?

A:  Mason Place prints a Quarterly Newsletter with a calendar in it that shows the dates and times of various activities and seasonal or holiday activities.  Monthly activities include fitness classes, ESL classes, informational meetings with speakers, and knitting/sewing for our Project HANDS program.  

Q: Are there on-site laundry facilities?

A: Yes, there is a coin-operated laundry facility on site.

Q:  What is the garbage/recycling process?

A:  Each floor has a garbage chute, and recycling receptacles are located on the ground floor.  

Q:  Is there any public transportation available?

A:  Yes.  The downtown location of Mason Place makes it very accessible by the MBTA system, buses, trains and trollies are within walking distance.
