Pilgrim Tower East is an affordable, older adult (62+) community with several apartments equipped to accommodate those who are mobility impaired (available to those over the age of 18).
Located in an area with single-family homes, apartments, and condos, Pilgrim Tower East is conveniently located close to shopping, medical services, theaters, and Old Town Pasadena with a variety of restaurants.
Our residents enjoy frequent parties, potluck suppers, bingo, which are held in the community room. Our residents are active participants in RHF’s Project H.A.N.D.S.
A Social Service Coordinator is available for residents’ personal needs.

What type of housing is Pilgrim Tower East? Is it low income housing?
Pilgrim Tower East is a subsidized housing community for seniors over the age of 62 and the mobility/sensory impaired. The term “subsidized housing” means that the rent is based on income. A resident of the community pays approximately 30% of their income as rent.
Who pays the remainder of rent?
The remainder of the rent is paid in the form of a subsidy. If a resident qualifies for a subsidy, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.
How is rent calculated?
Resident rent is based on approximately 30% of income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income and divide it by 12 months. This will give you an estimate of what your monthly rent could be.
What does the rent include?
Monthly rental of the apartment, as well as heat, water and an electric a. An electric allowance is a certain amount taken off of the resident’s rent payment meant to help the resident pay the electric bill. The allowance amount is based on average usage for the apartment and may change annually. Residents will still receive an electric bill, but the allowance is intended to help pay for it. Residents may still be eligible for energy assistance from the state.
Is there a lease?
Yes, there is a one-year lease, but we understand the necessity of unanticipated move-outs.
How many apartments are there?
Pilgrim Tower East has 158 apartments.
How big are the apartments?
Pilgrim Tower East offers spacious one-bedroom apartments, as well as a few more-accessible apartments for the sensory/mobility impaired. The one-bedroom apartments and accessible apartments are approximately 644 square feet.
How do I get started with the move in process?
Simply fill out an application completely, sign it and mail it to the address on the back of the application.
Is there a waiting list for residency?
Yes, currently Pilgrim Tower East has a waiting list. Unfortunately our waiting list is closed by now.
What is the Security Deposit?
The Security Deposit is the same as one month’s full rent with a minimum of $50. This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.
Do you allow pets?
Pilgrim Tower East welcomes you to bring your pets along with you. Fish and birds are welcomed without a deposit. We also welcome small dogs and cats with a pet deposit. There is a limit of one animal (cat or dog)per apartment and there are certain size and breed restrictions.
What is the Pet Deposit?
The pet deposit is the same amount as the security deposit with a minimum of $50 and a maximum of $150. We can make payment arrangements for this deposit. Beginning with $50 and then a monthly payment of $10 until the deposit is paid in full.
Is there additional storage space available?
There is no additional storage available, however, each style of apartment offers a large amount of storage space.
Is there an elevator?
Yes, there in one elevator located in the center of the building easily accessible by all residents, on all floors. Each wing of the building has an elevator.
Is parking available?
Yes, Pilgrim Tower East offers its residents the use of two parking lots, one in the North of the building and one in the South side of the building.
What is the cost for parking?
There is no cost for parking.
How many keys do I receive?
Residents receive an apartment key, a key to a locked mailbox for their apartment, and an access key to the main entry. Our main entrances are intercom controlled and automatically open with the key.
Are there any planned activities?
Pilgrim Tower East prints a monthly calendar showing the dates and times of various activities. Monthly activities include bingo, cards games, pot-luck meals, seasonal activities such as knitting/sewing for our Project HANDS program.
Are there on-site laundry facilities?
There is one laundry facility at Pilgrim Tower East. Contains five coin operated washers and five coin operated dryers with folding and hanging areas and a wash sink for the convenience of our residents. This facility is located on the first floor of the building.
Is there any public transportation available?
Yes, currently the city of Pasadena has a transit service called the Dial Ride also Pilgrim Tower East has a Van Service that takes our residents to different places. This service stops at our door and takes residents along a route throughout the city to the grocery store, departments stores, local restaurants, and other locations.
