Q: What type of housing is RHF The Whittier? Is it low income housing?
A: RHF The Whittier is a tax credit program low income for families. Applicants need to qualify based on 30%, 40%, 50%, or 60% and the minimum requirement is double the rent.
Q: How is rent calculated?
A: Rent is calculated based on all household members’ income.
Q: What does the rent include?
A: Monthly rental of the apartment, as well as hot water, and trash. A utility allowance of $ 43.00 for 3 BR $35.00 2 BR and $27.00 for 1 BR are the allowances that is deducted off of the resident’s rent payment (meant to help the resident pay the utility bills). The allowance amount is based on average usage for the apartment and may change annually. Residents will still receive one utility bill (electric) but the allowance is intended to help pay for these bills. Residents may still be eligible for energy assistance from the state.
Q: Is there a lease?
A: Yes, there is a one-year lease, but we understand the necessity of unanticipated move-outs.
Q: How many apartments are there?
A: RHF The Whittier has 60 apartments.
Q: How big are the apartments?
A: RHF The Whittier offers spacious one bedroom, two bedroom, and three bedroom apartments, five with accessible features, as well as a few more-accessible apartments for the sensory/mobility impaired.
Q: Is there a waiting list for residency?
A: Yes, currently RHF The Whittier has a waiting list; unfortunately is closed at this moment.
Q: What is the Security Deposit?
A: The Security Deposit is the same as one month’s full rent (plus the utility allowance). This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.
Q: Do you allow pets?
A: RHF The Whittier has a no pet policy.
Q: Is there additional storage space available?
A: There is no additional storage available; however, each style of apartment offers some storage space.
Q: Is there an elevator?
A: Yes, there are two elevators located on the side of the building easily accessible by all residents, on all floors.
Q: Is parking available?
A: Yes, RHF The Whittier offers parking spaces to Residents with a car only. No guest parking.
Q: What is the cost for parking?
A: There is no cost for parking.
Q: How many keys do I receive?
A: Each adult receives an apartment key, a key to a locked mailbox for their apartment, and an access key to the main entry elevators and parking doors. Our main entrance is intercom controlled and automatically opens with the key.
Q: Are there any planned activities?
A: RHF The Whittier prints a monthly calendar (and a monthly newsletter) showing the dates and times of various activities. Monthly activities include Project H.A.N.D.S. program, health education awareness, educational financial, sports activities, seasonal activities, such as mother’s day, father’s day, Halloween, and Christmas.
Q: Are there on-site laundry facilities?
A: There is a laundry room located on the 2nd floor. This laundry center contains 5 coin operated washers and 4 coin operated dryers with folding and hanging areas and a wash sink for the convenience of our residents.
Q: What is the garbage/recycling process?
A: There is a garbage center on each floor of the building specifically for garbage/recycling purposes. On the upper floors, there is a chute to dispose of trash directly into a dumpster. On the main floor, there are labeled bins for all recyclables.
