Q: What type of housing is Yorkshire Place?

A: Yorkshire Place is an independent living community for senior citizens who are over 62 years of age, or those who are mobility impaired.

Q: What kind of units do you have at Yorkshire?

A: We have studio and one-bedroom units, as well as barrier free units which are more-accessible units for the mobility impaired. The studio units are approximately 336 sq ft & 1 bedroom units are approximately 468 sq ft.

Q: How big is the building?

A: Yorkshire Place has 54 units. We are 3 stories, but we do have an elevator located centrally so that it is accessible by everyone.

Q: Are there on-site laundry facilities?

A: There is a coin-operated laundry facility on the first floor of the building with 3 washers & 3 dryers. There is a counter for folding clothes & an area for hanging items. There is a laundry sink as well.

Q: Is there parking for residents who drive?

A: We have plenty of parking for residents on the side & back of our building. Parking spaces are not assigned, nor is there a parking fee.

Q: Is there transportation available for residents who no longer drive?

A: There is a  Fare Free transportation program. Residents sign up for this service through the county. They are picked up at the door and are able to use this service for doctor’s visits, shopping trips etc. We also have NJ Transit public transportation. We can supply residents with the necessary contact information.

Q: Is this a low-income community?

A: Yorkshire Place is a subsidized community. This means the rent is based on income. The resident pays approximately 30% of their income as rent & the remainder is paid in the form of a subsidy. If the resident qualifies for subsidy, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a U.S. government agency, will pay the remainder of the rent.

Q: How is rent calculated?

A: Rents are based on 30% of household income. A good estimate of your rent would be to take 30% of your gross annual income & divide it by 12 months.

Q: What is included in the rent?

A: Rental of the apartment for one month, as well as hot water, sewer, and a utility allowance. The amount of the utility allowance is based on the average use of the apartment and may change annually. Residents will still pay for their own utilities, but the allowance is intended to help pay for their cost. Residents may still be eligible for energy assistance from the state.

Q: Is there a Security Deposit? If so how much is it?

A: There is a security deposit. The security deposit is the same as one month’s rent (before the utility allowance is deducted). This deposit is due in full at the signing of the lease.

Q: Do you allow pets?

A: Yorkshire Place welcomes you to bring your pets along with you. Fish & birds are welcomed without a deposit. We also welcome small dogs and cats with a pet deposit. There is a limit of one cat/dog per unit and there is certain size, breed restrictions.

Q: What is a Pet Deposit?

A: The pet deposit is $150.00. We can make payment arrangements for this deposit. Beginning with a $50 initial payment followed by monthly payments of $10 until the deposit is paid in full.

Q: Are there activities?

A: Yorkshire Place posts bingo, movie nights along with other events.

Q: Do you currently have a waiting list?
