Resident of the Year 2006
2006 Resident of the Year
Westminster Village Kentuckiana
Frances has been a resident of Westminster Village Kentuckiana in Clarksville, Indiana for eight years and currently serves as Vice President of the Residents’ Association.
The President of the Residents’ Association reports that she is a tireless worker. Nearly every day she is involved in helping tidy-up the social center after entertainment or an activity. She helps keep the front entrance area tidy, and she waters plants around the community. Frances helps put up seasonal, indoor decorations for holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas.
Frances is very active in rendering service to our less mobile residents, taking them to doctor appointments, picking up groceries and medicine for them, and helping them to the dining room. When the Village bus can’t accommodate all the residents who sign up for an outside lunch or other field trips she volunteers to transport residents in her own car.
Frances is currently Chairperson of the Activities Committee, and she is an active participant in the Residents’ Association, such as the fund drive to provide the Red Cross with funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina ($1,800 raised) and the Christmas food drive for the Salvation Army (1,200 pounds of food). She is a 40-year member of the Greenville Christian Church and is a member of the Jeffersonville Optimist Club. She also works one day a week as a volunteer at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in nearby New Albany. Frances has also helped to sponsor programs by other outside agencies, such as the Clark County program to aid troubled teenagers and the Noah’s Ark program for abused families.
Her Pastor, Steve Hayes, writes that she is always there to help provide special financial gifts in addition to her weekly support. These gifts are special since they help the youth programs and send missionaries to build churches in the Philippines. She will always be remembered in Palompon, Leyte, Philippines. Without her financial assistance, this church would not exist. She also supports a student at Ubay, Philippines.
The activity director, Jan Sutton, asks, “What is a Guardian Angel? I would answer, Frances Joy Pearce.”
