Resident of the Year 2006

Betty Flanders2006 Resident of the Year

Betty Flanders
Mill Pond Manor
Saline, Michigan

Betty has lived at Mill Pond Manor for five years. Staff and residents report that “she brings lots of joy to our home.” She and her friends entertain on the piano at the potlucks and birthday parties. She also does volunteer entertainment in the community, including the Veterans’ Home in Ann Arbor, the Evangelical Homes of Michigan, and Saline Hospital and Hospice Care.

In the past, Betty’s volunteer work for the VFW resulted in her escorting John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon at the National Convention.

She has headed up collections to send to our military in Iraq, and she continues her visits to the VA Hospital. Betty has been in numerous bands and on radio stations for 13 years. However, she says her greatest joy comes in visiting residents in nursing homes, persons in senior centers, and schools.

Her manager, Janet Klein, said, “Betty is a positive, loving person to have as a resident, and we are so thankful she lives here at Mill Pond Manor.” She has three children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and she still finds time to spread her joy at Mill Pond Manor.

Retirement Housing Foundation is pleased to recognize Betty Flanders as Resident of the Year.
