Volunteer of the Year 2018
Donna began her relationship with the residents of Benson Manor (Smyrna, GA) during the 13 years her mother lived at the community. Throughout those years Donna would bring her children and grandchildren to visit her mother, and all the residents got to know the family.
When a local church could no longer provide Benson Manor residents with the Christmas Holiday party, Donna stepped in and volunteered to cook Christmas dinner on Christmas Day so that residents who didn’t have family would have something special. She made sure that it was held late enough in the day that residents who had visited their families for the holidays could come and attend as well.
More recently she has started other holiday activities (Valentine’s Day, Easter) and has even provided a free Bingo night with snacks and prizes. She has recruited more volunteers from her place of employment to help with the many activities she provides.
Residents appreciate her generosity and the fellowship she provides. She has truly given all of the residents the feeling they are part of her family and that she cares deeply about them and would help them in any way that she can.
“Performing acts of kindness to others warms my heart,” Donna will tell you, “Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.”
RHF is pleased to present Donna Parris with the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award.
